Alek
Alek is a young man who is the prince and heir of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. He is on the run from the Germans who are trying to kill him. In comparing Alek and Deryn, they are very much alike as Alek is also stubborn, hard-working, intelligent, loyal, and kind. Alek is considered a Clanker which means he believes that machines are better than fabricated animals. Alek’s attitude is very arrogant as he was raised a prince and was given everything on a silver platter. Alek believes because he is the rightful heir to the Austrian-Hungarian throne he can help end the war.
